Championing people-centred land governance
On 27–28 February 2025, ILC Africa actively participated in the 4th International Land Management Conference, hosted virtually from Bristol, UK. The conference brought together land governance experts, civil society actors, and development practitioners worldwide to explore sustainable and equitable land management solutions.
At the heart of ILC Africa’s contribution was a firm commitment to people-centred land governance, ensuring that land systems work for people, especially those historically excluded from decision-making.
Leading Global Dialogue Through Side Events
ILC Africa led two high-impact side events that captured the urgency and relevance of our work:
Tackling Land Corruption as a Prerequisite for Effective Land Administration (In partnership with Transparency International)
This session shed light on how entrenched corruption continues to undermine land rights, disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities. It showcased community-led monitoring, social accountability tools, and policy interventions that promote integrity, transparency, and justice in land governance systems.
Securing Land Tenure for Women and Girls: A Foundation for Effective Climate Action (In collaboration with the Stand for Her Land Campaign)
We delved into the intersection of land rights, gender equality, and climate resilience. Speakers emphasized how securing land tenure for women and girls is not only a matter of justice, but also a cornerstone of inclusive climate adaptation, environmental protection, and sustainable development.
Amplifying Local Voices on the Global Stage
Through these sessions, ILC Africa amplified the experiences and innovations of our members across the continent, positioning them within global dialogues that shape land policy and practice. Our engagement reaffirmed a collective commitment to justice, gender equality, and climate action through secure land rights.
