ILC Internship Journey: A Rewarding Experience in Land Governance

As interns, we appreciate the organization for implementing the internship program that not only allows us to gain valuable experience but also provides us with a monthly stipend. Each of us has a dedicated supervisor who ensures that we complete our assigned tasks on time, allowing us to contribute meaningfully to the organization's mission.

When we first joined ILC as interns, we underwent a comprehensive orientation session. During this time, we were introduced to the organization's mandates, structure, and core values. We were given a clear understanding of how ILC operates and what would be expected of us. This induction process made it seamless for us to integrate into the team and comprehend our roles within the organization.

One of the highlights of our internship is the opportunity to participate in virtual conferences, webinars, and other events. These engagements not only enable us to connect with experts and professionals in the field of land governance but also facilitate knowledge sharing among members and stakeholders. Being a part of these events has broadened our understanding of global land issues and has allowed us to expand our professional network.

Another significant aspect of our internship is the responsibility of documenting meetings and virtual conferences by taking minutes and preparing summaries for internal use. This experience has greatly enhanced our communication skills and taught us how to effectively convey complex information in a concise and engaging manner.

ILC has at least one intern in every department offering a chance to collaborate and teamwork with each other. We brainstorm and share wins and challenges related to our diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise. There is a sense of teamwork and more so being exposed to different perspectives and approaches at work.

Above all, the internship experience at ILC has emphasized our professional development. Our supervisors check up on us to discuss progress, provide feedback and identify areas where we need to improve on. They encourage us to learn how to communicate in meetings and webinars.

In summary, the internship experience here is incredibly rewarding and we have had the privilege to gain practical skills and expand our understanding of global land issues and help contribute to the organization’s missions. It provides for a solid career foundation in our various fields.
