Pastoralist and Indigenous women unite to acknowledge and defend rangelands
In March 2026, the African Pastoralist Women’s Gathering (APWG) took place in Kampala, Uganda to strengthen the voices of African pastoralist women and girls, to advance policy influence, and to establish continental solidarity for pastoralist women. Their collective charter encompasses the following:
VISION
- A just, inclusive and resilient Africa where pastoralist women fully exercise their rights and sustainably manage rangelands for current and future generations.
MISSION
- To advance, protect and institutionalize the rights, leadership, and agency of pastoralist women through a unified Pan-African framework that influences policy, practice, and investment.
